Are you a coach, consultant, speaker, author, or another expert looking to get booked? If so, did you know that your personal brand is often what makes or breaks your ability to do so?

Podcasters and event coordinators look for more than a compelling topic or catchy book title. They’re looking for the person who can deliver the message with authority, passion, and enthusiasm.

Today, we’re discussing what you need to do to get branded and ensure that your brand is strong enough to get you booked. Let’s start with the most important first.

#1: Answer the Critical Questions

First and foremost, to ensure you have a foundation to help you get branded, you must be able to answer the five critical questions BrandFace is known for:

  • Who do you serve?
  • How do you serve them?
  • What qualifies you to serve them?
  • How does it make their life better?
  • What sets you apart?

Without those, you have no foundation. Only when those are answered can the rest of your brand fully wrap around you to tell your story seamlessly.

#2: Your Brand Identifier & Elevator Pitch

That is a tagline or slogan that focuses on what you stand for or what you want to be known for. Your elevator pitch should state who you do it for and what it means to them. Sound familiar?

#3: Your Specific Topics

Whether you’re a speaker or being interviewed on a specific topic, you must be sure that your topic is compelling, and that you can communicate it easily, providing a clear benefit to the audience.

#4: Your Takeaways

That refers to the insights you’ve gathered for your book, podcast, or speaking topic. Think about creating a list of in-depth bullet points that showcase what the audience will be learning when they listen to your podcast, buy your book, or listen to you speak on a stage.

#5: Your Ideal Guest or Audience Criteria

That’s who you serve from those five critical questions. Clearly defining your audience or guest is important because it identifies the people you help, and also helps your booking agents and event organizers match you up correctly.  This targeting becomes even more important when you consider back of the room sales opportunities.

#6: Your Call to Action

You have to tell people how you want to be treated. What’s the one thing you want your audience to do after they hear you speak? Be ready to let them know.  Consider layering that throughout the entire conversation. It’s not “Find me on Instagram here” or “Find me on YouTube here.” It’s the one thing that you want your ideal client to do. If you tap into that one thing, you’ll grab their contact information and the opportunity to be connected to them in some way so that you can take it the rest of the way.

#7: Your Important Links

These are links to your website, social channels, podcasts, etc. You must consistently brand these destinations with the same message and imagery you use everywhere else. Remember, these extend from your profile and help to complete the picture.

You want to give your ideal audience one call to action on stage. But when you’re creating a profile on other platforms, you want to give people as many opportunities to connect with you as possible, to view you online, to hear your podcast, to go to your social media channels and connect with you, to go to your website and learn more about you. Those links appear in your profile so people can connect with you even before they hear you speak

#8: Your Brief Bio

Be personable and share why you’re doing what you do. Remember that “people don’t do business with a logo…they do business with a person”  Make your bio or introduction so compelling that people will lean in, not tune out.

#9: Your Professional Photo

It’s a good idea to have several professional photos throughout your online connection channels.  They must show your personality and align well with your story and what you stand for. A professional photoshoot is one of the things a lot of coaches, creators and experts tend to skip.  Our advice after being personal branding experts for decades is to hire a professional photographer. You’ll love the outcome, and it will provide so much more confidence, making you proud of what you put out there every day. After all, what’s a great brand if you don’t put it out there?

#10: Your Cover Art

Cover art exists across almost all online channels, from social media cover photos to video thumbnails.  Remember to be consistent with your graphic designs so there is familiarity no matter where people find you.
