How do you go from invisible to invincible? From zero to hero? From unknown to unforgettable?

It’s through becoming recognized. Not just for your name, appearance, or what you do — but for the rest of the story.

Building recognition comes in two areas:

  • With people who already know you.
  • With people who don’t know you at all.

People who already know you may know a little about you and what you do, but they may not know the rest of the story.  In other words, they don’t yet see a connection between what you do, why you do it, and how it can transform their life or business. Below we explain how some of our clients have turned their recognition into riches and how you can do the same.

Example #1: The Abundant Life Broker

Michael Carr (COO of BrandFace) was actually a client before he became a partner in the company.  Prior to working on his brand, he was a hugely successful real estate auctioneer with a national footprint. However, he wasn’t yet known for this success in his home town of Jefferson, Georgia, and he was trying to build a boutique real estate brokerage. Today, he is recognized for how successful he is in real estate, and what that success means to his clients and agents alike. 

His brand message includes, “the confidence of over 78,000 transactions,” but it’s not the number that’s important.  That number translates to experience. It means that whatever most brokers have seen, his experience far exceeds theirs. And it’s appropriately conveying that experience level in his brand messaging that makes people remember him and how he’s different.

Example #2: The Basement Doctor

One of our clients, Rob Greenbaum, is known as The Basement Doctor. People recognize him as a great CEO throughout Ohio, and even across the country, but more importantly, they see that he’s also a great philanthropist. He’s involved with many charitable organizations and events, and is focused on doing great things in his community.  

His face, however, isn’t the only thing people notice.  One day he was recognized in the grocery store by his voice alone.  That moment is when a true connection recognition happens. And from that moment, you can start turning that recognition into riches.

How does that recognition turn into riches?

When we’re known for something specific, people not only recognize that, they believe it, and if they happen to fit your ideal customer profile, they take action sooner because they see a direct connection.

Think about this scenario. Perhaps you’re seeking a wellness coach. You search for someone to help you put your health into balance, and you run across a coach on YouTube who is recognized for their vegan lifestyle recipes. You’ve been thinking about trying a Vegan approach, and the timing couldn’t be better.

That’s because there’s a niche there, and the riches are in the niches. This coach’s messaging speaks to you because of that, effectively turning his recognition into riches.

Here’s another scenario.  Maybe you’re looking into hiring a podcast coach to help you launch your real estate investing podcast idea. Magically, you run across one who focuses on helping people launch real estate investing podcasts, and they also partner you up with sponsors who are looking to sponsor those podcasts. 

What that person is recognized for becomes what you are attracted to, take action on, and become a part of. Again, that’s when recognition turns into riches. 

Defining, developing, and displaying your focus and expertise in a personal brand hones in on exactly who you are and what your brand represents. The best place to start is by asking yourself these five critical questions that any great brand should answer

  • Who do you serve?
  • How do you serve them?
  • What qualifies you to serve them?
  • How does it make their life better?
  • How are you different from everybody else who is also trying to serve that same customer?
